Geographically, Ukraine is located in the central part of Eastern Europe. Ukraine is the second largest European country in terms of territory, and ranks fifth in Europe in terms of population. Interestingly, in the Western part of the country, between the towns of Uzhgorod and Rakhiv, a sign was mounted to mark the geographic center of Europe. This event was registered at the meeting of the Geographic Society in Vienna back in the 19th century. It was the first scientific attempt in history to mark the center of the continent.
Our country is quite young. It proclaimed its independence in 1991. Since that time, throughout a short period we, Ukrainians, needed to introduce many changes in various areas, including political, economic, social, and other changes. People who visited Ukraine 10 or 15 years ago may not recognize the country today. Our towns have completely different faces; our life in the areas of business, culture and the arts is in full swing. A new generation has grown up that doesn’t even remember Soviet lifestyle. It perhaps exists today only in stylized restaurants, pictures and souvenirs, which have come into fashion. We know how to work well and we know how to have fun, we treasure our history and we are committed to building a beautiful country, which will be a European country, and not only in geographic and historical terms. |
